FirstNet Opens Technical HQ in Boulder (CO)

The Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act created the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet), established as an independent government authority with a mandate to provide specialized communication services for public safety using nationwide 700 MHz spectrum.

FirstNet has leased a 28,000 square foot facility and plans to hire 100 employees to start designing public safety solutions ( see release ).  An important part of this effort is Public Safety LTE.

The FirstNet facility is located in the high-tech city Boulder, Colorado, and strategically near Public Safety Communications Research (PSCR), US Department of Commerce, Boulder Laboratories is instrumental in developing and facilitating the development of standards for public safety including those key for Public Safety LTE.
